Our Whole Lives (OWL) for 8th Grade
OWL is a program of comprehensive sexuality education based on a philosophy that helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. Comprehensive sexuality education, grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, social and political aspects of sexuality as well. Although this program is generally provided for 8th graders, there is some flexibility regarding 7th or 9th grader participation subject to parental discretion.
Adults who have been specifically trained for this curriculum lead OWL courses.
Coming of Age (CoA) for 9th Grade
Many cultures have a rite of passage that recognizes the transition from childhood to youth years and young adulthood. The Unitarian Universalist tradition has such a passage that we call “Coming of Age.” Our year-long CoA program is rooted in inquiry, service and worship and culminates in a Sunday service that is a highlight for our youth, their families and our congregation.
