Sunday, May 5th  –  “It’s Dolly Sunday!”  –  led by Brad Conner

It’s that time of year again and time for First Parish’s annual Music Sunday service. This year will focus on country singer, songwriter, musician, entrepreneur and activist, Dolly Parton. There will be readings about her life and from her incredibly deep well of comments about life and love. The music will include songs written by Dolly as well as other songs from her story. l’ve already been asked the important question, “How do I dress for this?” I encourage you to get out any of that country western garb that is hidden in the closet and be sure to wear bling, LOTS of bling. Also, we will be hosting a drag queen, Miz Diamond Wigfall, all the way from Salem, MA to join us during the service and she will be available for pictures during coffee hour. There will also be a short “Drag Queen Story Hour” at noon in the sanctuary to which all are invited.

Sunday, May 12th  –  Peace and Protest in a Time of Devastation   –  Rev. Jamie Hinson-Rieger

This Sunday we discuss “Peace” as a proposed core value of Unitarian Universalism. Holding a commitment to both peace and justice, as we do, is hard and sometimes messy, and our commitment to peace has always been ambivalent. We have at different times in our history supported wars, opposed wars, promoted militarism, preached pacifism, engaged in non-violent protest, and also engaged in armed resistance. This Sunday we will look at how our commitments to peace and justice call us to respond to the devastating violence we see around the world, and why this work is never uncomplicated. As a particular example, I will preach on why I support the student protestors in this moment.

Sunday, May 19th  –  Coming of Age Service  –  Rev. Annie Gonzalez

Our 9th and 10th graders have been spending the year exploring Unitarian Universalism and what matters to them. Come to participate in an engaging service led by our Coming of Age youth where you can hear from them on what they believe and value.

Sunday, May 26th  –  Love and Liberation: The Future of UU Theology   –  Rev. Jamie Hinson-Rieger

This is the final sermon closing out our year-long discussion of the proposed changes to Article 2 (the seven principles) ahead of the June vote. The UUA charged the Commission reimagining Article 2 to include two things in any acceptable proposal: Love at the center of Unitarian Universalism, and a clearly expressed commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression (the 8th principle.) This points to a future UU movement that is not just liberal but liberationist. What is the difference? How is it relevant to the world today? And how is it already being lived out in our movement?
