It’s Our Turn
The budget for First Parish in Bedford is based on various sources of income, which include fundraisers, leasing of cell tower space in the belfry, the church endowment, and collections from weekly services. The most important source of our budget comes from our annual pledge drive. All of these funds go toward paying salaries, heating the building, keeping the lights on, and more. However, the annual church budget does not cover occasional “big ticket” items. This is where capital campaigns come in.
First Parish has held several previous capital campaigns, going back as far as the incorporation of the town of Bedford. More recent campaigns have raised funds for an elevator and other accessibility improvements and funded a new high-efficiency boiler, air conditioning for the sanctuary, and solar panels on the roof. These capital campaigns achieved our goals to make the church both more welcoming and greener.
The 2026 Capital Campaign addresses sorely needed physical improvements that are aimed at improving sustainability, embracing universal access and radical inclusion to grow community, and leaving a legacy worthy of our inheritance. It’s our turn to take care of our beloved community’s cherished home.
