Email Lists

There are three email lists for use by the First Parish community:

Joining the Email Lists

All newcomers who fill out a blue welcome card or complete the online form will be signed up for the Parish Biz email list.

To request access to the other email lists (Anno and Discussion), contact the office at office@uubedford.org or 781-275-7994.

List Descriptions and Examples

The Parish Biz list is for notifications from First Parish staff, Leadership Team members, Parish Council members, and others who are responsible for major events. Posting access is restricted to First Parish leadership, staff, board members, and committee chairs. Examples of messages you will receive include:

  • Monthly Parishioner newsletter
  • Weekly Friday email
  • Weather-related notifications
  • Speaker of note at this Sunday’s service
  • Auction appeal
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • UUA announcement

The Anno list is for questions and announcements to the FP Community that are NOT specific to First Parish administrative and calendar activities. Examples include:

  • What a wonderful music service last Sunday
  • Can anyone recommend a good plumber?
  • Come see the great show at Bedford High School
  • Remember to vote on Tuesday
  • 2 seats for the Symphony available for tonight
  • Meeting on Bedford Plaza residents to be held this Wednesday

The Discussion list is for promoting the discussion of issues and topics of general interest to the community, including further discussion of posts to the Anno list. Examples include:

  • Debate a bill coming up for a state senate vote
  • Discussion on a humanist principle
  • Further discussion of the Anno list post about Bedford Plaza meeting

Email List Guidelines

The First Parish Anno, Parish Biz, and Discussion lists have been established by First Parish as a vehicle for communication within the First Parish community.

Generally speaking:

  • Anno and Parish Biz are for posts that do not seek a response (except, for example, an RSVP).
  • Discussion is for posts that do seek a response.
  • A message should never be posted to more than one list.

Please also keep in mind:

  • Discussion should not be used for commercial solicitations.
  • Commercial solicitations on Anno should be kept to a minimum and be directly related to the First Parish community, such as FP teenagers looking for occasional work during school vacations, or a parishioner who knows of a job opening that might interest someone in the community. 
  • Consider making a donation to First Parish if you sell items as a result of posting on our lists.
  • Posts should reflect our values. Any post should be consistent with the spirt of this church and the shared values espoused by the UUA, which are centered on love.

Oversight

Subscription to the lists is open to all members of the First Parish community. Participation in the lists is a privilege and not a right. While these lists are un-moderated, the Parish Board and/or the Chair of the Parish Board reserves the right to appoint a moderator to moderate the lists for a set or an indefinite period when in their discretion such action is warranted.

First Parish neither endorses the contents of any list users’ communications nor assumes responsibility for any offensive material contained in them, nor any infringement of third party intellectual property rights arising from them. When you subscribe to a list, you agree to indemnify and hold First Parish and its officers and employees harmless from any claim or demand made by any third party due to or arising out of the use of the First Parish Discussion and Announcement list services.
