Recently there has been an attempt by some in the culture and in the current administration to redefine what it means to be American, and crucially, who counts as American. At a time when our Indigenous neighbors are observing the National Day of Mourning, let’s take a critical look at this new language of “Heritage Americans” and what it portends for our collective future.
