Welcoming is a hopeful act, rooted in an openness to new relationships and a belief that we come to each other as strangers bearing gifts. When the spirit of welcome is lost, what replaces it is fear, real or manufactured. Which guiding spirit will we choose for our nation’s future, hope or fear?
